Colin Thurston, associate

Colin joined Wolfe, Smith & Forster LLP as an associate in 2014 to further his practice in family law and civil litigation with the mentoring and support of Charlie Forster. His practice includes all aspects of family law including divorce applications, breakdown of common law relationships, negotiating separation agreements, custody, access, child support, spousal support, equalization of net family property, property claims and other issues related to family breakdown.  Colin’s civil litigation practice also includes mortgage and debt enforcement, estate and power of attorney disputes, real property, and commercial disputes.

Prior to joining Wolfe, Smith & Forster LLP, Colin was called to the Bar in 2011 and practiced law for three years at the firm where he articled. Practicing with a prominent multi-service firm provided Colin with experience in a number of areas of law, including litigation, family law, corporate and commercial, intellectual property, privacy and employment law.  Colin Thurston is a graduate with honours from Western University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Criminology. He obtained his law degree from Queen’s University in 2010, where he was the recipient of the Sabbath Prize in Wills and Estate Planning and also received several awards recognizing his outstanding volunteer work in litigation at the Queen’s Legal Aid clinic.

Colin is approachable and takes a practical approach to family and civil disputes.  While he is experienced and has achieved success at trial, he will always seek to achieve resolution where possible.  He is a strong advocate in negotiations, and when the situation requires he is experienced and ready to represent clients before various courts and administrative tribunals.

Colin and his wife are proud parents of two young children, and are thrilled to be a part of this community.  In his free time, Colin enjoys spending time outside with his kids and barbecuing for his family and friends.

Colin is a member of the Wellington Law Association, the Centre Wellington Chamber of Commerce, the Canadian Bar Association and Speed River Collaborative.  He is also a volunteer on the Board of Directors at Shelldale Family Gateway  in Guelph.
